Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna has blasted his former running mate whom he accused of “deserting him” at the eleventh hour.
The fiery politician had last week surprised journalists and supporters when he turned up with Karen Wagenye as his running mate to present his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC).
He had weeks earlier unveiled former student leader  at Laikipia University James Gathungu as his running mate.
On Tuesday, Miguna explained the circumstance leading to the switch in the choice of running mate.
“That man disappeared for two weeks and only turned up on the day I was presenting my nomination papers,” Miguna said while appearing as a guest at a political show on NTV on Tuesday morning.
He added: “And then, he also didn’t meet the threshold for this job. His academic qualifications were not in order. That said, I am one of the very few candidates who has entrusted a youthful woman to do this job.”

Miguna is vying to unseat incumbent Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero in a race that also includes Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko and former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth.
